Patriotism

Patriotism

Patriotism will always matter because it is who you are and who you were brought up to be. Patriotism is dying in our country, but it is so simple to show; all you have to do is hang a flag up in your yard.  Whenever you are at a sporting event you show your patriotism by singing the “Star Spangled Banner,” every day at school you show your patriotism, and every day you are free. The true definition of patriotism is love and devotion to your country.
There are many people who have fought for freedom and have died. There are many people who have devoted their lives to our country because they felt it was their duty. There are many people who want to fight but are physically incapable. Yet there are many ways you can help keep our country free without going into the military.  One way is to support the troops by helping with funds. You can also help around your community and volunteer at a veteran’s center. Another way is to vote for the right people in the government because it is your duty to vote and make this country better with the right leaders.
Everybody should show their patriotism because so many gave their lives for us to be free today. They gave us the freedom of speech. Unlike other countries we can say what we want and not be punished. Unlike other countries we can believe in what we want and not be punished. We also have freedom of religion, which lets us believe in whatever we want. These two things let us be whoever we want to be, which makes us who we are.  Freedom is what our patriots have worked for in every single war we have fought in and they will do anything to keep us free.  Always be thankful to be free. Never take advantage of it. That’s patriotism.

  1. Alyssa,
That was really well written and I like how you kept repeating there are many.... It really worked in your response. I think that all three paragraphs are written great. You have good word choice and I like the definition you put.

  3. Very strong piece. I like how you emphasized the freedom and patriotism. The word choice is really good, and I especially LOVE the last line of every paragraph. It's a good way to wrap up the idea of each one. Def. enter this in the contest. Good luck and great job!
